Shenandoah National Park
National Parks hold a special significance to me because they serve as an example of how we as a society should think about nature, which is in terms of preservation. National Parks exist to protect significant areas of wilderness for the sake of preserving the ecosystem and to be enjoyed by the public. On a plaque in the park I read that some people used to call the Appalachian trail the escape route, as in an escape from the pressures of the real world. I couldn’t identify with that statement more, and like many others I find great inspiration and peace in nature.
The goal of presenting Shenandoah in the manner that I did was to celebrate the importance of what National Parks stand for. I wanted to depict the vastness and beauty of the park with large vivid prints in order to communicate the positive impact I believe they have on our planet. National parks are the epitome of what the relationship between humanity and nature should be, so I consider this project my love letter to Shenandoah.
