Senior Project
Nature has always held a special significance in my life, especially the natural spaces that I remember from my childhood. But over time I’ve seen much of the land from where I grew up get developed for one purpose or another. In particular I remember observing the outward growth of the suburban area where I was raised. I watched as natural spaces of the surrounding area were slowly transformed into shipping warehouses and townhouse communities. This experience made a lasting impression on me and is my inspiration to pursue environmental themes in my art.
This project is intended to explore the relationship between humanity and nature, focusing on the ways people interact with the environment for better or worse. Each photo is a representation of some way humans impact natural spaces, but whether they are positive or negative is up to the viewer. By presenting these photos together it is my intention to make the viewer contemplate the ways people impact and change their natural environment. The images in this collection are representative of my own perspective, so I hope they make an impression on others the way that my own experiences with nature have on me.
